Introduction

Trinity·Sense is a two-hour live performance bringing together improvised violin and piano, live electronics, lighting, and scent. It explores how smell can become a creative language alongside hearing and vision, with improvisation unfolding within a shared multisensory setting.

Scent as a Creative Language

The starting point is the way familiar scents can evoke associations with places and experiences. Trinity·Sense approaches these associations as artistic material, exploring how scent can contribute to the experience of a performance alongside sound and light.

Sound and Chapter Structure

The performance is structured in chapters with different sonic emphases. Violin and piano improvisation are extended through live electronics, including granulation. TouchOSC provides an interface for controlling the electronic processing during performance.

Designing the Multisensory Setting

Sound, lighting, and olfactory design were developed as parts of the same performance. Scents were mixed for individual sections, and ventilation was arranged as part of the presentation.
